Education
Landscape Architects are required to obtain a degree from a Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) accredited university. LAAB accredited programs are able to provide the education necessary to equip prospective Landscape Architects with the knowledge to safely practice in the field. By enduring the education required by the licensure process, Landscape Architects possess superior knowledge that directly benefits the customer.
Apprenticeship
Licensed Landscape Architects are required to complete two years of work in a field related to Landscape Architecture. During this time, indispensable knowledge is obtained that may be used to create a plan that incorporates all aspects of the design.
Licensure
The state of Virginia requires all Landscape Architects to to be licensed through the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) to be allowed to use the title "Landscape Architect." In addition to obtaining a degree from an LAAB accredited university, and completing two years of work in a related field, Landscape Architects must pass a four day, five part exam regulated by DPOR. By working with a Landscape Architect, home owners can be ensured that they are getting the most qualified service available.
Continuing Education
Additionally, all Landscape Architects are required to obtain continuing education credits, ensuring current knowledge of all aspects of the design process.
